Hello!
Despite today’s undesirable weather conditions we still managed to squeeze in a practice show, media flights, and the CF-18 even got to fly twice and give us some flybys!
As far as tomorrow, THE AIRSHOW IS STILL SCHEDULED TO GO ON FROM 10am – 3pm. This can change at any time though since it is dependent on how the weather is holding up. I will update you of any status changes on @nyasinfo.
Tomorrow is also the second day of the Memorial Day Weekend Legends of Airpower and Armor at the American Airpower Museum. They will have extended hours tomorrow and they will feature a live band and dusk flybys. You can also book flight experiences on the B-17 Yankee Lady and other historic WWII aircraft.
You can find out more information about this event in the guide section of this website.
The B-17 Yankee Lady arrived today but we are still missing Matt Chapman and the Air Tractor AT-301. Because of the inclement weather I cannot guarantee you that they will be able to arrive in time for the show.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned!
Hello!
I am sorry if I sent anyone on a “wild goose” chase today, but the weather didn’t want to make up its mind and a lot of flights either got cancelled or bumped to a different time slot.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much better news for tomorrow as the forecast looks like it could get ugly.
- AS OF NOW THE PRACTICE SHOW IS STILL SCHEDULED TO GO ON FROM 10am – 3pm.
This is highly weather dependent.
The planes will still fly if there is an overcast or drizzle, but if we are getting torrential down pours I doubt much of anything will go up. If there is a break in the weather however, I do expect the CF-18 and other performers to go up for some practice flights. Honestly I give tomorrow a 50/50 chance of happening. I wish I had better information to give to you guys but this is the reality of it.
- As far as other events for tomorrow, Friday kicks off the Memorial Day Weekend Legends of Airpower and Armor at the American Airpower Museum and weather permitting, B-17 Yankee Lady from the Yankee Air Museum is due to arrive. I also expect some of the performers to fly media flights throughout the day.
- Today, the Raiders Flight Demonstration Team, Misty Blues, and PBY-5 arrived (pictured above) arrived and Sean Tucker, Rob Holland, and John Klatt did a couple of media flights.
That is all for now, if I hear anything else I will post it here or on @nyasinfo.

Hello guys!
Today was the first official day of airshow action and I have to clarify some things as information started to change rapidly.
- Good news! It was first announced that they would only send one Canadian CF-18 over to Republic, but today two came in! There will still only be one plane flying in the show, but this means if there is a mechanical problem with one plane they will still be able to do their performance in the other.
- Tomorrow the PBY-5, Misty Blues, and 4-plane Raiders Demonstration Team (6pm) are expected to arrive (weather permitting).
- A lot of performers such as Kirby Chambliss, Red Bull Airforce, and Chuck Aaron came in earlier than expected. They probably wanted to beat any bad weather that was coming our way.
- You can expect a lot of media flights tomorrow from performers such as Sean Tucker, John Klatt, and Kirby Chambliss.
I know some of you are becoming increasingly concerned about the weather conditions impacting the airshow. Things are looking iffy, but fortunately meteorologist Mike Leona offered us some insight on what we can expect for the next couple of days. You can read his forecast here.
W2lie.net will also be providing live audio streams from Republic Airport this year. You can read more about this here.
If you will be buffing out and listening to the live feed, mention any important information you hear to @nyasinfo on twitter. Unfortunately, I cannot be at the airport 24/7 and sometimes I miss things. If you let me know via Twitter I will retweet it and let others know what is going on.

5/22/13 – Airshow Week Weather Update #2
I know some of you are becoming increasingly concerned about the weather conditions impacting the airshow. Things are looking iffy, but fortunately meteorologist Mike Leona offered us some insight on what we can expect for the next couple of days.
Wednesday may start off cloudy, but it has the makings of being high on the “bust” potential scale. In forecasting terms, no computer model can tell you exactly what will happen correctly or close to it. In fact, the day ends up being far from it. What was expected to be a foggy morning-turned warm, humid day may end up being fairly cloudy and foggy for parts of Long Island, as it did yesterday. Some short-tern models are hinting at the marine layer, which plagued the area all morning, to stick around for most if not all of the day. Despite there, there were showers that still developed, including a heavier one over central Suffolk County. This means there still is the chance of a shower or thunderstorm, and with still such a juicy airmass, any rain could be quite heavy. Highs will ranger from the 60s to the low 80s depending on where you are (northwestern Nassau County is typically warmer than anyone else, and a east to southwest breeze keeps the south shore chilly, the East End cool, and if Mother Nature doesn’t play nicely, very cloudy too.Wednesday night features a little chance for a shower or thunderstorm, again, with drizzle and fog. Then a cold front comes through late Thursday. Before the front, showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast. It may not be a washout, but there’s a good deal of rain around. Highs range from the upper 60s to mid 70s. Temperatures and humidity finally dip Thursday night thanks to the front, but the showers continue on and off.Into Friday and Saturday, there’s still some question. After all, the computers that guide forecasters weren’t really “on the ball” Wednesday morning either, weren’t they? The problem is when the rain ends. Some say late in the day, others say the rain lasts into Saturday! We’ll see if there’s a consensus soon to accurately depict the forecast, but for now, this meteorologist’s gut tells him, that showers last throughout the day, and should end at night, leaving some drizzle leftover into Saturday morning. This is still subject to change.Building on “my gut,” expect a great holiday weekend.Saturday and Sunday are mostly sunny with highs around 70. Memorial Day looks great for grilling with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the low to mid 70s. All three of these days have a northwest wind, so the barrier beaches and immediate shores won’t be much different unless a VERY local seabreeze kicks in. Overnight lows are in the 50s across Long Island each night into the weekend. Some good points:
-
Winds shouldn’t be an issue, in terms of speed. There may be an occasional gust to 25 mph over the next few days, daytime hours. Winds are southeast to southwest Wednesday, southwest Thursday, northwest Friday and the weekend.
-
Ceilings will be a big problems once the rain gets in. VFR conditions can’t last forever in this pattern. No problems on the weekend.
-
For any spectators this weekend, a strong sun angle will cause the UV index to skyrocket, despite normal temperatures. A few weeks removed from the summer solstice will do that. Sunscreen is a must. Dress appropriately as well. Anywhere near shore will be chilly…much more so in rain and an ocean wind. But even on the weekend, once the sun goes down, it’ll get chilly quick.
Hello folks!
Here is today’s update with some exciting information!
- The Canadian CF-18 Hornet is expected to arrive at Republic Airport sometime tomorrow.
- I do not have an exact time on this, but if you see the CF-18 support trucks that usually means the jet should be in shortly. If you see or hear anything give a shoutout to @nyasinfo.
- The Raiders Flight Demonstration Team is due into Republic on Thursday at 6pm. For the airshow they will be flying a 2-plane teaser demonstration and then a full 4-plane demonstration later on.
- The Fighter Factory PBY-5 is expected to arrive Thursday (weather permitting).
- The Yankee Air Museum B-17 is also expected to arrive Friday (weather permitting).
- Team Oracle and other airshow performers are expected to go up tomorrow for media flights.
Wednesday looks like it is going to be one of the best days of the week weather-wise, you can read meteorologist Mike Leona‘s forecast here.
W2lie.net will also be providing live audio streams from Republic Airport this year. You can read more about this here.
